A significant milestone in naval modernization occurred on August 12, 2026, with the christening of the ORP Wicher, the first of three multi-purpose frigates under the Miecznik program. Attended by President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the ceremony at PGZ Stocznia Wojenna marks a major step in the 15 billion PLN program. The 138-meter vessel, scheduled for launching on August 13 via the BOA Barge 33, is expected to be handed over to the Navy by the end of 2029 to bolster Baltic Sea security.

As the celebrations approach, the Ministry of National Defence has addressed online disinformation regarding recent military movements. Officials clarified that footage showing tanks and aircraft in Warsaw and Gdynia depicts scheduled rehearsals for the festivities rather than “emergency mobilization or preparations for war.”
