Polish rail integration of mObywatel digital identity

Overview

Polish rail operators are expanding digital identity verification through the integration of the government mObywatel application with the KOLEO ticket sales platform.

Initially implemented by Koleje Dolnośląskie, the system allows passengers to verify their identity and student discount eligibility during the ticket purchase process. This eliminates the need to present physical ID cards or student credentials to conductors. The digital tickets function offline, which assists travelers in areas with poor internet connectivity.

Following this implementation, Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna (ŁKA) announced it would also adopt the system starting August 17. Similar to the Koleje Dolnośląskie model, ŁKA passengers using KOLEO can authenticate their identity and student discounts—including a 51 percent reduction—via the mobile app to streamline inspections and boarding.
