In mid‑July 2026, the National Council of Agricultural Chambers (KRIR) requested that the Minister of Agriculture grant retired farmers who continue to work and pay into the KRUS fund the same sanatorium rehabilitation priority as active farmers. Currently, retirees enter a general pensioner queue where waiting times can reach up to 20 years due to a backlog of over 12,000 applicants for approximately 800 annual KRUS places. The Ministry of Agriculture notes that the National Health Fund (NFZ) serves as an alternative with significantly shorter queues.

The NFZ operates a free “returns” (zwroty) scheme that reallocates approximately 15–20% of cancelled slots. Patients with a confirmed referral and a statement of readiness can be offered these spots at popular resorts like Kołobrzeg, Krynica‑Zdrój, Ustroń, and Zakopane, often within days. To utilize this, patients must confirm acceptance within 24–48 hours and be prepared to travel within roughly 14 days. From 1 August 2026, this fast‑track system was extended to priority groups, including war veterans, military personnel, and honor blood or organ donors.

While waiting times for standard NFZ stays range from four to eleven months—with the longest queues in Silesia and Lower Silesia—the “returns” system can reduce waits to about two weeks. Simultaneously, the NFZ expanded its public dental programme to include reimbursements for extractions, periodontal treatment, radiographs, and various anaesthetics, offering many services free of charge for children, adolescents, and pregnant or postpartum women.

Additionally, the Municipal Hospital in Świnoujście recently secured a five-year NFZ authorization under the Act on Quality in Healthcare and Patient Safety, though the NFZ maintains the right to terminate contracts if standards are not met.
