Polish satellite internet and technological sovereignty
Overview
The Polish SatCom Alliance, a consortium including Exatel, Energa Operator, Creotech Instruments, and Phoenix Systems, has been established to develop a sovereign European satellite internet system. The initiative focuses on providing satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services for the energy sector and critical infrastructure using low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to ensure data transmission during terrestrial network failures.
During the inaugural Phoenix-EVENT 2026 deep-tech forum in Warsaw, participants from government, military, and space sectors discussed the necessity of European technological and digital sovereignty to avoid reliance on US and Chinese technologies. The event facilitated the formalization of the Polish SatCom Alliance and a strategic cooperation agreement between Phoenix Systems and the Dutch company Axelera AI. Discussions also addressed the challenge of European research and capital migrating to the US.
