Political and economic stability in Coahuila
Overview
Coahuila continues to maintain political and economic stability relative to the rest of Mexico. While the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) faces national decline, it maintains a level of permanence in Coahuila, where its presence is linked to the maintenance of security, peace, and public order.
This environment has been recognized by Coparmex Nacional as a driver for business development. The state is cited for its ability to attract capital and generate employment due to high security levels in cities such as Piedras Negras, Saltillo, and Torreón, as well as significant labor stability, including a 31-year period without a strike.
Between 2024 and 2026, Coahuila confirmed 201 investments totaling over 172.5 billion pesos, which are projected to generate approximately 78,519 direct jobs. The state remains a national leader in automotive part production; according to the Industria Nacional de Autopartes (INA), Coahuila accounted for 15.7% of the country’s total value, reaching 8.305 billion dollars between January and May 2026. Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas noted that these results demonstrate the strength of the automotive industry in the region and foster confidence for future investment and job creation. The Northern Zone remains the primary production hub for the country, contributing 44.1% of the national total.
To sustain this momentum, Governor Jiménez Salinas has utilized the State Coordination Table for Peace and Security to coordinate efforts between state authorities, the Mexican Army, and the National Guard. In Saltillo, Mayor Javier Díaz González has implemented measures to strengthen local safety, including the donation of a mobile command post, a patrol unit, and 20 PTZ cameras to the Derramadero valley to monitor industrial and rural areas.
