Political detention concerns in Tunisia and Guinea

Overview

Political leaders and human rights organizations are raising concerns regarding the treatment and safety of detained opposition figures in Tunisia and Guinea.

In Tunisia, Abir Moussi, president of the Parti destourien libre (PDL), has expressed fears of “physical liquidation” while in prison. Detained since October 2023, Moussi has alleged maneuvers to remove her from her party leadership. Human rights organizations have noted an increase in the repression of political dissent in the country.

In Guinea, the Mouvement démocratique libéral (MoDeL) reported that its president, Aliou Bah, was transferred from the Coyah civil prison to an unknown destination during the night of October 6-7, 2026. Bah has been in detention since December 2024 following a sentence for defamation against President Mamadi Doumbouya. Party leadership is currently working with lawyers to locate him and ensure his integrity.
