Legal and political tensions involving Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan have emerged within the Congress party. On August 26, the Kerala High Court dismissed a plea from expelled Congress leader Simi Bell Rose John, who sought police protection against the Chief Minister and his brother. The court found no material evidence of a threat to her life or property, suggesting the petition may have originated from a personal grudge following her expulsion from the party.

On August 29, the friction escalated when District Congress Committee leader Chenthi Anil was arrested for allegedly obstructing the Chief Minister’s convoy in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident occurred while Satheesan was traveling to a commemoration for social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. According to police reports, Anil and supporters stopped the vehicle to demand the Chief Minister attend a separate anniversary celebration.

The encounter reportedly escalated into a heated argument. While the Chief Minister’s office stated the Chenthi event was not on his official itinerary, organizers claimed he had been invited. Anil faces multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and obstructing a public servant. In response, the Congress party suspended Anil, who has since claimed the police action is driven by internal party factionalism.
