Political threats and incitement in Poland

Overview

Authorities in Poland have addressed several incidents involving violent threats and political incitement. In late August, a 55-year-old woman was charged for posting online comments suggesting the hiring of a professional killer to eliminate Law and Justice (PiS) politicians, including Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki. She claimed the posts were expressions of political dissatisfaction.

In September, police arrested a 52-year-old man in Oława for issuing death threats against Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Facebook. The threats, discovered by the State Protection Service in August, led to a formal prosecution request by the Prime Minister. The suspect faces up to three years in prison.
