Political violence and assaults in Monpura

A series of violent assaults involving local figures has been reported in Monpura, Bhola. In late September, the principal of Bhola Nazirur Rahman College was allegedly assaulted inside the Monpura Upazila Model Mosque while attending a religious lecture. The principal accused leaders and activists of the Jubo Dal and Swechasebak Dal of orchestrating the attack, citing a previous dispute over an employee dismissal. Local political leaders denied these allegations, suggesting the motive may have been related to the dismissed employee.

In October, a second incident occurred near the Fazil Madrasa Jame Mosque. An assistant teacher and a community health worker sustained serious head injuries after being reportedly lured from the mosque and attacked with sticks and local weapons. The victims alleged the assault was led by a ward organizational secretary for Jamaat-e-Islami following a political disagreement.

In both instances, local police have indicated that legal proceedings and investigations are contingent upon the filing of formal written complaints.
