Porto Metropolitan Area PITCH innovation hub development

Overview

The Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP) is developing the Porto Innovation and Technology Community Hub (PITCH), a large-scale initiative designed to establish a metropolitan innovation and technology ecosystem. The project aims to integrate research centers, universities, and companies to attract investment, foster qualified employment, and retain talent through the creation of research poles, laboratories, and prototyping centers.

Initial proposals included the Matosinhos Municipality seeking to host a hub at the former Galp refinery in Leça da Palmeira on a 40-hectare plot designated for a university campus. However, the project has expanded to a metropolitan scale involving multiple municipalities. In addition to Matosinhos, which faces competition from the Maia municipality, other regions including Gondomar and Valongo have expressed interest in hosting various components of the hub.
