Porto urban mobility and public transit initiatives
Overview
Porto is implementing various initiatives to enhance urban mobility and public transit engagement. Following the implementation of a free public transport pass on July 10, Mayor Pedro Duarte reported that over 100,000 users have signed up for the program. This user base consists of approximately 50,000 existing Andante pass holders and 50,000 new users.
In addition to the free metropolitan pass, the city has reintroduced the historic Tram Line 22. This circular route connects Carmo to Batalha, providing a 30-minute journey through the historic center and landmarks such as the Clérigos Tower. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to promote diverse transit modes, including buses, metro, river transport, and trams, to encourage shifts in urban mobility habits.
