Portugal slope stabilization and infrastructure repairs

Overview

Following recent storms and severe weather, Portuguese authorities have initiated several infrastructure projects to address soil instability and erosion risks.

In late October 2026, emergency stabilization works began in Setúbal to mitigate landslide and structural collapse risks near the N10-4 road and Albarquel Urban Park. Simultaneously, containment works were scheduled for the EN362 road in Porto de Mós following a partial slope collapse during Storm Kristin.

By the end of October, Infraestruturas de Portugal commenced a larger scale, 1.27 million euro project in Abrantes. This intervention on the National Road 2 (EN2) involves installing high-resistance networks, drainage systems, and protective coatings to reinforce stability in the Espinhaço de Cão area. This project, aimed at repairing damage from earlier weather events, is expected to continue through January 2027.
