Portuguese DGArtes cultural funding programs

Overview

The Portuguese Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) initiated a new state financial support regime for the cultural sector following new regulations in August 2026. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport launched the Sustained Support Program, a 72.84 million euro initiative divided into biennial and quadrennial modalities. This program covers various sectors including Visual Arts, Interdisciplinary, Circus, Street Arts, Digital Arts, Dance, Music, Opera, Theatre, and Programming.

Following this broader funding launch, DGArtes specifically allocated 1.035 million euros to support 115 artistic projects focused on the internationalization of Portuguese art. These projects, spanning five continents and 58 countries, are scheduled to run from September 2026 through February 2028. Music received the most support with 46 projects, followed by theater, dance, and visual arts. Brazil and Spain were identified as the primary destinations for these supported initiatives.
