The 13th‑ and 14th‑placed clubs are automatically relegated to district leagues, while the 11th‑ and 12th‑placed sides enter a maintenance playoff. These refinements aim to streamline promotion and relegation pathways and increase regional interest in Portuguese lower‑division football.

Simultaneously, the senior men’s futsal championship for 2026/27 was confirmed with 15 clubs, and President Pedro Proença reiterated the federation’s “new culture of victory,” emphasizing decentralisation, municipal cooperation, and the recent appointment of Jorge Jesus as national team coach.
