Portuguese municipal and port scholarship initiatives

Overview

Various entities in Portugal have announced scholarship programs to support students entering higher education for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS) launched a social responsibility initiative providing ten scholarships of 1,300 euros each to students from Sines, Portimão, and Lagoa. This program targets those facing economic difficulties and includes a mentorship component where APS employees act as tutors to assist with academic adaptation and labor market transitions.

In a separate development, the municipalities of Faro and Serpa introduced their own support programs. Faro is offering up to 20 annual scholarships to residents in undergraduate or master’s programs, with applications open until November 20. Serpa has approved an 18,000 euro investment to provide 18 scholarships, consisting of twelve grants for low-income families and six merit-based awards, marking a return of municipal student support to the region after several decades.
