Overview

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Portugal are receiving recognition for economic and financial performance through various regional and national distinctions.

In the Setúbal district, Seixal has maintained its position as the leader in the PME Líder awards between 2020 and 2025, with 127 companies receiving the distinction. Nationally, the PME Líder 2025 status was awarded to 14,133 companies, an increase of 739 from the previous year.

In the Portimão region, the municipality is utilizing the ‘Portimão Reconhece’ initiative to honor local businesses. In 2024, 68 SMEs in the area earned the PME Líder distinction, with 33 of those also achieving the PME Excelência status, which is reserved for organizations demonstrating “exceptional economic and financial performance”.
