Power outages in Quito, Ecuador

Overview

On September 10, 2026, power outages affected several sectors in northern Quito, including La Pradera, San Salvador, Bosmediano, and parts of Eloy Alfaro avenue, as well as Tumbaco.

The Empresa Eléctrica Quito (EEQ) reported that these interruptions caused significant traffic complications in the capital’s north and hyper-center due to malfunctioning traffic lights. While EEQ dispatched teams to perform corrective work and service was restored to most areas, crews continued working toward full recovery of the electrical supply.
