Prague metro network expansion

Overview

Prague is advancing several major expansions to its metro network. Initial developments focused on planning a new tangential route, tentatively named Metro E, which aims to connect outer districts like Smíchov and Letňany to reduce travel times by bypassing the city center. Concurrently, feasibility studies were commissioned to extend the existing Metro Line D toward Náměstí Republiky.

Following these planning stages, construction has officially commenced on a new section of Metro Line D at the Nové Dvory site. The project has entered the tunneling phase, beginning with the excavation of a 300-meter access and ventilation tunnel. This work, managed by a multi-company consortium, is expected to continue through the first quarter of 2027 before work proceeds to the station itself.
