Preguntá por Ángela safety protocol implementation

Overview

The ‘Preguntá por Ángela’ (Ask for Angela) safety protocol, designed to prevent harassment and abuse in nightlife venues, has moved through different legislative stages in Argentina.

Initially, the Rosario City Council approved the initiative to protect women and diverse identities from physical aggression, sexual attacks, and chemical submission. The voluntary program involves training staff at bars, clubs, and hotels to assist individuals in distress, who can activate the protocol by asking for ‘Ángela’ at a bar or reception. In severe instances, staff are instructed to contact emergency services or municipal gender services.

Following this, the Santa Fe Chamber of Deputies granted partial approval to a similar legislative project. This version of the protocol includes staff training, municipal coordination, and the implementation of a ‘Safe Seal’ for participating establishments to ensure a discreet assistance mechanism and safe exit for women feeling at risk.
