Prehistoric pottery workshop in Kahramanmaraş

An international scientific workshop titled ‘Prehistoric Pottery in Upper Mesopotamia and Beyond (7000-4000 BC)’ was held in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. The event was organized by the Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality in collaboration with several academic institutions, including Hacettepe University, Koç University, and the Netherlands Research Institute.

The program brought together approximately 30 researchers from countries such as Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Spain. Discussions focused on pottery production techniques, archaeological findings in the Upper Mesopotamia region, and the social and symbolic functions of ceramics during the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods.

Presentations covered diverse regional topics, including early Mesopotamian ceramics in the South and Central Zagros foothills, Halaf period settlements in northern Iraq, and Chalcolithic traces in the Upper Tigris Valley. The workshop specifically aimed to highlight the archaeological heritage of the region, including research related to the Domuztepe Mound.
