38th Premio Charlot festival in Salerno concludes
Overview
The 38th edition of the Premio Charlot international performing arts festival has concluded in Salerno. The festival, which honors the legacy of Charlie Chaplin, utilized the Teatro Delle Arti, Teatro Augusteo, and Teatro Verdi to integrate cinema, music, theater, and comedy.
Earlier in the program, the festival featured a live drawing challenge by illustrators Pasquale Qualano and Andrea Scoppetta, a musical production of Rapunzel, and the Charlot Giovani competition for emerging comedy talents. Special awards were presented to Lello Marangio for his writing and Maurizio Merluzzo for his career as an actor and digital content creator.
On September 25, the event at the Teatro Verdi featured a 90-minute set by the Montecarlo Big Band, directed by Maestro Angelo Abate. While Roberto Vecchioni was unable to perform due to health reasons, special guest Enrico Brignano received the ‘Grandi Protagonisti dello Spettacolo’ award. Brignano engaged in a dialogue with journalist Cinzia Ugatti regarding fame and social media before performing the monologue ‘L’uomo che salvò il mondo’.
The festival ended with a gala ceremony at the Teatro Verdi. During the closing event, Michele Placido was presented with the ‘Grandi Protagonisti dello Spettacolo’ award and performed a monologue from ‘The Great Dictator’. Other honors included the Nino Petrone memorial award presented to Paolo Sommaruga, and recognition for the artistic duo Vittoria Belvedere and Cesare Bocci. The gala also featured performances by artists including Marco D’Amore, Manuela Arcuri, Leo Gassmann, and Gabriele Cirilli.
