Professional cycling transfer market activity

Overview

The professional cycling transfer market has seen significant movement involving high-profile riders and contract renewals.

Initial reports indicated that Italian rider Filippo Ganna was considering leaving Netcompany INEOS, despite a contract through 2027. Lidl-Trek was reportedly engaged in accelerated discussions to secure the time trialist for the 2027 season. Other activity in the market included contract extensions for Urška Žigart, Markus Hoelgaard, William Blume Levy, Corbin Strong, George Bennett, and Dion Smith, as well as a renewal for 50-year-old Óscar Sevilla.

Following these developments, Filippo Ganna officially signed a three-year contract with Lidl-Trek, effective through 2029. This move ends his eight-season tenure with INEOS Grenadiers. Ganna stated his objectives with the German squad will focus on Grand Tours and classics, joining former teammates such as Jonathan Milan and Simone Consonni.

Lidl-Trek CEO Andy Schleck described Ganna as an ‘exceptional talent’ capable of winning major races while supporting his teammates. Ganna expressed enthusiasm for the new chapter, stating that with the current team composition, ‘nothing is out of reach.’
