Property crime and theft in Germany

Overview

Police in various German regions have reported a series of property crimes and thefts throughout late September and October 2026.

In late September, incidents in the Grafschaft Bentheim and Emsland regions included the theft of nicotine liquids and a leaf blower in Meppen, a residential burglary in Papenburg, and an assault on a 66-year-old bus driver in Papenburg. A trash can fire near a school was also reported in Schüttorf.

By mid-October, investigations expanded to the Bergen and Lübeck areas. In Bergen, authorities noted thefts of diesel from a construction site, an attempted warehouse break-in, and a burglary at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule. In Lübeck, a residential burglary resulted in the theft of a cello valued at approximately 6,000 euros; the instrument was later recovered by passersby in a green space.
