Protests against religious structure demolitions in India

Overview

Thousands of demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to protest against the alleged demolition and targeting of mosques, madrasas, churches, gurdwaras, and other religious structures across India. Organized by the Monitoring Committee of Indian Muslims (MCIM), the protest included participation from social activists, lawyers, students, and various religious organizations.

Participants demanded the protection of religious freedom and constitutional rights. The demonstration also sought accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the event, Delhi Police detained several prominent figures, including Samajwadi Party Members of Parliament Iqra Hasan and Zia ur Rehman Barq, as well as leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and the Students Islamic Organization.

Following their detention, the protesters were released after authorities recorded their names and addresses. Opposition lawmakers criticized the administration, alleging that national institutions are being influenced by a specific ideology that threatens minority safety and national stability.
