PSS Sleman performance in BRI Super League

PSS Sleman has struggled during the early stages of the BRI Super League season. Following an opening 1-2 loss to Bali United, the team sought a recovery victory against Madura United at Maguwoharjo Stadium.

By their fourth match, PSS Sleman remained without a win and sat 15th in the standings with zero points. Despite showing competitive play, head coach Pieter Huistra noted the necessity of addressing defensive issues after the team conceded five goals in their opening fixtures. Their subsequent match was scheduled against Dewa United, who entered the fixture in second place.

In their meeting at Banten International Stadium, Dewa United secured a 2-1 victory. Taisei Marukawa scored in the 49th minute and provided an assist for Carlos Iury, who scored in the 58th minute. Marukawa was named Player of the Match, noting that the team has shown “significant improvement in cohesion compared to the previous season.”

The result moved Dewa United to the top of the standings with 10 points from four matches. However, head coach Osmar Loss cautioned against complacency, noting that the team has played one more match than competitors Madura United and Persija Jakarta. Loss stated the team is focusing on “one match at a time rather than the championship title,” looking ahead to a fixture against Persib Bandung on October 11, 2026.

Following three consecutive losses, PSS Sleman remains in the relegation zone at 17th place with zero points. Christophe Nduwarugira scored the team’s lone goal in the match. Coach Huistra observed that while the team showed potential, they continued to struggle with defensive issues and the absence of official pre-match training sessions due to new regulations. PSS Sleman captain Cleberson highlighted the need for supporter motivation as the club pursues its first win of the season.
