PTI political crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Overview
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has reported significant political instability and governance challenges in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. Initially, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja claimed the elected provincial government had “practically ceased to exist,” alleging that lawlessness prevailed and that police and deputy commissioners were ignoring provincial instructions.
Raja also reported the detention of party workers and the sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan to prevent protest participation. Following these developments, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan addressed the imposition of Governor’s Rule and emergency measures in KP. Gohar stated that the party attributed these measures to demands for meetings with Imran Khan and reported the arrests of several parliamentarians, including Adil Bazai and Naseem Shah. The party continues to seek legal recourse, with the Peshawar High Court scheduled to hear cases regarding the imposition of Governor’s Rule.
