Public health and infrastructure improvements in Bosnia and-

Overview

Public health and infrastructure initiatives are being implemented across Bosnia and Herzegovina to enhance safety, surveillance, and service capacity.

In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute for Public Health is upgrading radioactive waste management in Rakovica. Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency and Idaho National Laboratory, the project introduces specialized equipment for the safer packaging of materials used in medicine and industry. Concurrently, the ‘IMMUNOGUARD’ project, supported by UNICEF, is training medical staff to improve the monitoring and epidemiological investigation of poliomyelitis.

In West Herzegovina Canton, authorities are focusing on expanding regional healthcare and laboratory capacities. Plans include the opening of new facilities for the Institute of Public Health of West Herzegovina Canton. Additionally, the canton has approved the distribution of computer equipment donated by UNICEF through the ‘EU4INCLUSION’ project to improve the capacity of ministries to manage statistical and human rights data.
