Punjab academic and agricultural AI integration

Overview

Punjab University has inaugurated a Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at its Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. This facility is a collaborative effort involving the university, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), and Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The laboratory provides modern computing and server infrastructure to support joint research and academic projects between Pakistani and Turkish faculty, researchers, and students. As part of this initiative, Punjab University signed a five-year academic cooperation agreement with Türkiye’s Yıldız Technical University to facilitate student and faculty exchanges and joint research.

Parallel to these academic developments, the Punjab government is working to integrate artificial intelligence into the agricultural sector to help farmers forecast yields. To support these broader technological goals, the Government of Pakistan is expanding AI training through specialized staff programs and nationwide educational outreach.

The Office of AI in Punjab recently completed an intensive learning session in collaboration with Huawei Pakistan to build technical understanding among the team responsible for implementing AI projects. Additionally, a new initiative has been launched to provide training in generative AI, automation, and machine learning to young people in remote and underserved rural communities. This program aims to reduce the digital skills gap and prepare a workforce for the digital economy through employment and entrepreneurship.
