Punta Arenas municipal social programs

In July 2026 the Municipality of Punta Arenas began two distinct community initiatives. On 17 July it opened registration for the city’s annual Christmas gift program, inviting guardians of children aged 0‑10 to apply online or in person by a 18 September deadline. The scheme, which helped roughly 5,500 children the previous year, aims to ensure every child receives a gift.

Later in the month, on 29‑30 July, the municipality disbursed more than $17 million in subsidies to 22 non‑governmental organisations. Grants cover projects in sports, culture, senior activities, disability support, animal welfare, recycling and broader community services, with the goal of benefiting hundreds of residents across various neighbourhoods.

Together, these actions illustrate the city’s ongoing emphasis on municipal welfare programs, ranging from direct aid to children to broader support for NGOs serving diverse social needs.
