Purdue and Illinois college football rivalry

Overview

Purdue secured a 24-17 victory over Illinois at Memorial Stadium, reclaiming the Purdue Cannon trophy and snapping a 19-game Big Ten losing streak. This win marked the Boilermakers’ first conference victory since November 2023 and the first Big Ten win for Purdue head coach Barry Odom. It also represented Purdue’s first road win in the conference since 2022.

Purdue quarterback Ryan Browne threw for 255 yards and a touchdown, while freshman kicker Jacobo Echeverria Lozano contributed three field goals. A decisive 1-yard touchdown run by Antonio Harris in the fourth quarter helped extend the lead. The Purdue defense delivered a season-best performance, limiting Illinois to 17 points and making critical stops on third and fourth downs.

Illinois, playing during their homecoming game, struggled offensively despite a touchdown pass from Katin Houser to Collin Dixon. The loss leaves Illinois with a 2-3 record and 0-2 in Big Ten play. Additionally, Illinois running back Ka’Lil Valentine left the game with a right leg injury that is expected to end his season.
