Qualcomm Snapdragon C laptop platform rollout
Overview
Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon C platform, an ARM-based solution designed for entry-level Windows laptops priced around $300. The platform features an 8-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU and an Adreno A643 GPU, with Qualcomm claiming it outperforms Intel’s N250 processor in several benchmarks, specifically reporting up to 67% higher performance on battery.
Technical specifications reveal the CPU features single-core speeds up to 3.0 GHz and multi-core speeds up to 2.0 GHz. The platform includes a Hexagon NPU to support light AI workloads and supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR4x, LPDDR5, or LPDDR5x memory, with the latter supporting speeds up to 6,400 MT/s. Qualcomm aims to make budget laptops priced around €300 viable by 2026 through high energy savings and efficient performance for tasks such as web browsing, office work, and streaming.
Following the platform unveiling, Acer launched the Aspire Go 15 (AG15-Q31P) utilizing the Snapdragon C eight-core processor. Positioned as a mid-tier budget option, the device is available for pre-order in the United Kingdom for approximately £499.99. The laptop includes a 15.6-inch Full HD display, 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. Major hardware partners, including HP, Lenovo, and Asus, are expected to release devices featuring this technology.
