Querétaro school security and protocol updates

Overview

Authorities in Querétaro are revising educational protocols to address both digital distractions and physical safety. The Secretary of Education, Martha Elena Soto Obregón, announced plans to adjust ‘Ley Kuri’ protocols to align with upcoming federal proposals regarding cell phone restrictions in classrooms.

Following an incident involving a firearm at a middle school in Jalpan de Serra, officials are also reviewing security measures. The Unidad de Servicios para la Educación Básica en el Estado de Querétaro (USEBEQ) and the municipality of Querétaro have launched a collaborative strategy to enhance safety. This includes plans to install security scanning arches in approximately 100 secondary schools between December 2026 and January 2027.

Furthermore, the municipality will conduct a diagnostic study across 459 public basic education schools. This assessment aims to focus on violence prevention, human rights, and social inclusion to develop targeted preventive actions for the school community.
