Quran memorization graduation ceremonies in Turkey

Overview

In late September and early October 2026, religious graduation ceremonies for Quran memorization students were held in different Turkish provinces. In Bitlis, 86 female students from the Fatih Yatılı Hafızlık Kur'an Kursu and the Hacı Hikmet Ersan Hafızlık Yatılı Kur'an Kursu received their certifications. Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı Vice President Dr. Hüseyin Hazırlar attended, describing memorization as a “significant responsibility and a blessing.” Additionally, the national final for the Quran Courses Hafizlık Competition for female students took place in Mardin. Hosted by the Mardin Provincial Mufti, the competition featured regional winners from seven areas, with Esma Şahin from Gaziantep Şahinbey declared the winner. Mardin Governor Tuncay Akkoyun noted that being a hafiz involves “not only memorizing verses but also living by the moral guidance of the Quran.” On October 18, 2026, a large-scale ceremony was held in Malatya for 373 students, consisting of 174 males and 199 females, who completed their hafiz training. Malatya Provincial Mufti Ramazan Dolu stated that this figure represents a record number of graduates for the province within a two-year period. The event, attended by Governor Seddar Yavuz and other officials, included Quranic recitations and certificate presentations.
