The initiative seeks volunteers across 18 municipalities in the districts of Uckermark, Märkisch-Oderland, Elbe-Elster, and Oberspreewald-Lausitz to use free measurement boxes for twelve months starting in early 2027.
Complementing these regional efforts, the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has advised residents nationwide to conduct radon measurements. The BfS recommends utilizing the start of the heating season for testing, noting that elevated indoor radon levels are typically most apparent during winter months. To ensure accuracy, the office suggests using passive measuring devices for a full year, though electronic devices are available for short-term snapshots.
