Rafael Nadal business venture expansions
Overview
Following his retirement from professional tennis, Rafael Nadal has transitioned into various business ventures. His initial expansions included the development of Zel Hotels, a luxury hospitality brand created in partnership with Meliá Hotels International to promote a Mediterranean lifestyle. This period also saw a focus on his personal life through a Netflix docuseries.
Nadal subsequently expanded his commercial interests into the wine industry. In collaboration with the Gil family of Jumilla, Spain, he launched the ‘El Tenista’ brand. This project, part of the Dominio del Liftado initiative, focuses on recovering old Monastrell vines to produce organic red wine in limited editions. The grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards located at an altitude of 750 meters, and the wine is aged for approximately 18 months in new French oak barrels.
Furthering his international presence, the Rafa Nadal Academy is expanding into the Middle East. In partnership with HARVE, a new facility named the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Bahrain is scheduled to open in the Amwaj Islands by the final quarter of 2027. This will mark the academy’s ninth facility worldwide and will feature six tennis courts (both indoor and outdoor), three padel courts, physical preparation and recovery areas, a sports shop, and a cafeteria.
