Retrial of Pierin Vincenz and Beat Stocker in Zurich

Overview

The Zurich High Court has reopened the legal proceedings against former Raiffeisen executive Pierin Vincenz and his business partner Beat Stocker. The retrial follows a February 2024 appellate ruling that overturned a 2022 conviction—which originally saw Vincenz sentenced to three years and nine months and Stocker to four years—due to an excessively detailed indictment.

During the reopened proceedings, the defendants face charges of fraud, breach of duty, and passive bribery. Prosecutors allege the pair enriched themselves by secretly acquiring stakes in companies later purchased by Raiffeisen or the credit-card firm Aduno. Additional charges involve the misuse of corporate credit cards for personal luxury expenses, including trips to Dubai and visits to strip clubs, which the prosecution described as a “tour de Suisse through the red-light district.” Vincenz has defended these costs as “relationship management.”

In recent testimony, Vincenz cited memory gaps regarding specific details and claimed that Raiffeisen is pursuing the legal action to “destroy him.” The presiding judge, Christian Prinz, expressed skepticism toward Vincenz’s explanations. Beat Stocker, the former managing director of Aduno, attempted to justify the secrecy of their investments as entrepreneurial risk-taking, arguing that no conflict of interest existed because all parties profited. However, Stocker later expressed regret to the court, stating, “Today I know: Careful, conflict of interest, hands off, Beat!”
