Railway incidents in Spain
Overview
A series of railway-related incidents occurred in Spain during August and September 2026.
In August, two separate events were reported involving trains. In Torrelavega, National Police officers prevented a potential suicide attempt by stopping a train and moving an individual to safety. In Salamanca, an elderly man died after being struck by a train while walking on the tracks.
In September, a passenger train traveling from Barcelona to Bilbao struck a tractor at a level crossing in Fuenmayor, near Cenicero. While no physical injuries were reported among the approximately 160 passengers, two individuals required assistance for anxiety attacks. The collision caused material damage and immobilized the train, leading to service interruptions and the implementation of bus transfers.
