Ramón Díaz potential return to River Plate

Overview

Manager Ramón Díaz and his son, Emiliano Díaz, rejected coaching offers from the Brazilian club Corinthians to pursue a return to River Plate in Argentina. Emiliano Díaz described the refusal as the ‘most difficult decision of my career,’ noting his priority was to support his father’s professional dream.

Speculation regarding a return for Díaz in 2027 has intensified, fueled by social media activity from former River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofrio. Emiliano Díaz has characterized the potential move as supporting his father in fulfilling his ‘last great dream in football.’ While no official negotiations have been confirmed, Díaz remains a primary candidate for the club’s future technical direction.

Leonardo Ponzio currently serves as the interim manager at River Plate. His continuity is reportedly dependent on upcoming results, with reports suggesting he must secure specific points in upcoming matches to maintain his position through the Superclásico.
