Rangers FC squad injury crisis

Rangers FC has experienced a sustained injury crisis affecting multiple departments of the squad. In mid-August, manager Derek McInnes warned the club was ‘playing with fire’ as injuries to Tuur Rommens, Ben Godfrey, and Youssef Chermiti depleted defensive and attacking options ahead of UEFA Europa League qualifying.

By early September, the crisis intensified. In addition to the ongoing absences of Chermiti and Rommens, the club reported new setbacks including a severe hamstring tear to captain Lawrence Shankland, a groin injury to Daisuke Yokota, and a foot injury to Kosta Nedeljkovic. These cumulative injuries have impacted the club’s ability to field a full-strength roster for both Scottish Premiership and domestic cup fixtures.

On September 8, Rangers secured a narrow 1-0 victory over St Mirren via a 91st-minute strike from Bojan Miovski. Despite the win, the squad depth crisis persists. Captain Lawrence Shankland is now expected to be sidelined for approximately three months due to his hamstring tear. The club continues to manage the unavailability of Yokota, Nedeljkovic, Chermiti, and Rommens as they prepare for upcoming fixtures against rivals Celtic in both the Premier Sports Cup and the Premiership.
