Overview

A rare medical case involving uterus didelphys, or a double uterus, was documented in Trabzon, Turkey. After three previous miscarriages during IVF attempts, 28-year-old Serenay Atagün underwent a specialized procedure at Medical Park Karadeniz Hospital. Dr. Ufuk Yılmaz transferred one embryo into each of the two separate uteri, resulting in a “dicavitary twin pregnancy.”

This condition is estimated to occur in only one in a million births. Dr. Yılmaz noted that this is the third recorded case globally where such a pregnancy was achieved through IVF, with the other two instances occurring in Turkey and China.

The patient gave birth to twin girls, Nil and Ada, via cesarean section at 33 weeks. Following a period in intensive care, the twins were discharged from the hospital in healthy condition.
