Recalls of supplements with undeclared ingredients

Overview

Health authorities in the United States and Spain have issued recalls for various natural supplements after discovering they contained undeclared pharmaceutical ingredients.

In the United States, A&P Creations LLC recalled two sexual enhancement products, X10 Natural Enhancement Supplement and biQ-FEL, because FDA testing identified sildenafil and tadalafil. Officials warned that these substances can cause life-threatening drops in blood pressure when interacting with certain prescription medications.

In Spain, the AEMPS ordered the withdrawal of four products: Etumax Royal Honey, Miel Soudan VIP, Epimedyumlu Macum, and Organic Honey. Laboratory analysis found sildenafil in all four, with Etumax Royal Honey also containing tadalafil and Organic Honey containing paracetamol. Authorities noted that these undeclared substances pose serious risks to individuals with cardiovascular conditions.

Expanding on these findings, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has ordered the immediate market withdrawal of ‘El Toro’. While marketed as a natural supplement, laboratory analysis by the Official Medicines Control Laboratory (LOCM) confirmed the presence of sildenafil. The discovery followed information provided by the Asturias Superior Police Headquarters. Because sildenafil is present in quantities sufficient to exert a pharmacological effect, the product is legally classified as a medicine. Authorities warn that sildenafil is contraindicated for individuals with conditions such as heart failure, unstable angina, or severe hepatic impairment.
