Turkish and regional diplomats address UN General Assembly

Regarding the status of Northern Cyprus, TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu has continued to advocate for a ‘one island, two states’ solution and an end to international embargoes. Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to address the Cyprus issue. Erhürman denied allegations that he rejected a proposed tripartite meeting with Guterres and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides. He stated that the Turkish Cypriot side has accepted six of the seven confidence-building measures proposed by the UN, such as demining and joint emergency response, though he maintained that the current proposal for crossing points is ‘not acceptable in its present form.’
