Recovery of lost savings in Warzymice

Overview

A couple in Warzymice, near Szczecin, accidentally discarded approximately 300,000 PLN after throwing away a dresser during a home renovation. The funds, which the couple had saved over several years through seasonal work abroad, were intended for mortgage payments and apartment renovations. The error was discovered a day after the furniture was taken to a waste collection point.

Following a police investigation and the analysis of surveillance footage, authorities successfully tracked the furniture to an apartment in Szczecin. The cash has been recovered and returned to the owner. However, a woman who took possession of the money is facing charges for the appropriation of found property, an act that can carry a penalty of up to three years in prison under Polish law.
