Reduction of LGTBIQ+ funding and protections in Spain

Regional governments in Spain, primarily those led by conservative coalitions, are implementing measures that reduce or omit specific protections and funding for the LGTBIQ+ community.

In Aragón, the SOMOS LGTB+ de Aragón association has denounced the removal of a specific 161,000 euro subsidy line previously dedicated to programs such as legal rights information, in-person assistance, and social awareness projects. The regional government has reduced the total budget for the current subsidy call by 15.5%, redirecting remaining funds toward disability and universal accessibility initiatives. Vox representatives defended the decision, stating that sexual orientation is not a valid reason for public subsidies.

In Castilla y León, the administration has not advanced regional LGTBI legislation, making it the only Spanish autonomous community without its own specific law. While neighboring Asturias has approved regulations, LGTBI associations have criticized the Partido Popular (PP) for stalling efforts and failing to implement specific public policies despite state-level protections.
