Overview
The Diocese of Reggio Emilia and Guastalla has sold 49,400 square meters of land in via Francia to Ccfs Immobiliare for 1,053,000 euros. The site, located opposite the ‘Le Querce’ shopping center, is slated for a development project including five residential buildings with 20 apartments, commercial spaces, offices, and 250 parking spaces.
A larger urban project involving other landowners aims to eventually provide a total of 87 apartments and various retail facilities, such as a new discount store. Construction is expected to begin within 18 months, pending final permits.
The sale has drawn criticism from environmentalists and local political groups like Coalizione Civica. Critics noted that while former Bishop Massimo Camisasca had previously stated there was no intention to build on the site, the Diocese had not formally renounced its building rights.
