Regional confectionery developments in Turkey

Overview

New regional confectionery products have been introduced in different Turkish provinces. In Elazığ, a company named Ece Çerez ve Şekerleme launched ‘cevizli şeker’ (walnut candy), a product made from local walnuts, sugar, and blackthorn water. The business owner, İhsan Çakmak, indicated that following successful development and public tastings, the company has moved to mass production with plans for national and international distribution.

In Erzurum, baker Selami Atiş introduced a dessert called the ‘Erzurum bomb.’ Inspired by the ‘Izmir bomb,’ this version uses local ingredients including Karnavas mulberry molasses, local walnuts, and butter.
