Regional development in Al-Ahsa
Overview
Regional development and security activities in Al-Ahsa have focused on industrial, agricultural, and security integration.
Initial efforts involved discussions between the Governor of Al-Ahsa and the Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources to enhance the industrial environment and increase sector competitiveness in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
Agricultural development reached a milestone with the inauguration of the ‘Lemon City 2’ project by Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Governor of Al-Ahsa. This Reef Foundation initiative spans over 3.1 million square meters, encompassing 183 agricultural holdings and more than 80,000 trees to enhance production efficiency. The project was highlighted during the closing ceremony of the ‘Loomi Al-Hasawi 2026’ exhibition, organized by the Al-Ahsa Chamber of Commerce. During the exhibition, which featured over 104 participants and 84 transformative products, several memorandums of understanding and agreements were signed to strengthen agricultural value chains and support local farmers and entrepreneurial projects. These actions aim to transition local products from simple marketing to manufacturing and investment stages.
Infrastructure and urban development have also seen significant progress. Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, reviewed the municipality’s 2026 developmental achievements with the Mayor of Al-Ahsa. Notable completions include the King Abdullah (Inner Ring) Road and Riyadh Road intersection project, finished six months ahead of schedule, featuring a 1,500-meter tunnel. Additionally, 80 kilometers of roads within the agricultural oasis have been improved. Public transportation metrics reported 650,000 passengers for the year with a 95% on-time performance rate.
Additionally, regional security was addressed through a meeting between the Governor and the newly appointed Border Guard Commander for the Eastern Province regarding border security and field readiness.
