Regional drainage and flood prevention infrastructure
Overview
Municipalities and regional governments in Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia are implementing various infrastructure projects to improve water management and mitigate flooding risks.
In Portugal, Águas de Coimbra has allocated approximately 79,000 euros for a new stormwater drainage network in Orelhudo. In Brazil, Resende is beginning a major overhaul in Jardim Jalisco to replace aging pipes with larger structures.
In Argentina, infrastructure efforts have expanded. The Province of Buenos Aires has awarded a contract for approximately $59.15 billion pesos for Stage III of the Arroyo Dupuy drainage works in La Matanza, intended to benefit 15 neighborhoods; this work is pending a loan extension from the Inter-American Development Bank. In Buenos Aires City, authorities have completed over 60 works to reinforce drainage systems against heavy rainfall, with 14 additional drainage works currently ongoing to mitigate risks associated with the El Niño phenomenon.
In Córdoba, the provincial government is executing a water maintenance plan exceeding $93 billion pesos through canal re-engineering and stream cleaning. Other regional activities include preventive hydraulic cleaning in Pérez and Saladillo, and road maintenance in Monterrico. In Colombia, Cúcuta continues to advance the urban transformation of the Bogotá canal.
