Regional sports competitions in the Balkans

Overview

Regional sporting activities in the Balkans continue to feature professional league competitions, particularly in water polo, volleyball, and handball.

In the Water Polo Regional League, Radnički Kragujevac maintained its momentum with a 16:10 victory over Budućnost Podgorica. In domestic competitions, Mladost secured the Croatian Supercup by defeating Jadran 18-10 in Bjelovar.

Volleyball saw significant developments in Montenegro. Budućnost won the Women’s Supercup in Podgorica with a 3-0 victory over Herceg Novi, with set scores of 25:9, 25:12, and 25:22. Elena Jovanović scored 10 points for Budućnost, while Ana Popović was named the most valuable player. Herceg Novi, led by Marija Bojić with 12 points, fielded a roster primarily composed of cadets and only two senior players. This was due to administrative issues and registration blocks through the FIVB, stemming from reported financial difficulties and blocked accounts related to legal disputes with former foreign players.

Handball activity includes Mornar 7 securing a 21-20 win against Berane 1949, while Dinamo Pančevo defeated Loznica 36-27.

Basketball activity remains active; in the opening round of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Championship, Orlovik Žepče secured a dramatic 84-81 away victory against Sloboda Energoinvest, while Leotar Trebinje defeated OKK Slavija 1996 85-75. In Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb won 94-85 against Dubrovnik.

Football results include Sloga Čakovec winning 8-0 in the Međimurje Premier League, alongside various matches in the Croatian lower leagues, such as a 3-3 draw between Picoki and Graničar in the Third League North.
