Release and promotion of Tamil film Sigma
Overview
The Tamil film ‘Sigma’, produced by Lyca Productions, has undergone scheduling changes and promotional activities ahead of its release. Originally slated for July 31, the film’s worldwide release date was moved to October 2.
Directed by Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, in his directorial debut, the film stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah. The plot follows Guru, a librarian attempting to protect his late mother’s ancestral library, who becomes embroiled in a conflict involving a mysterious pen drive and a hidden overseas fortune. This narrative is described as a “high-octane adventure involving a treasure hunt and heist elements” involving a “500-crore crime racket involving drugs and gambling.”
Following its October 2 release, audience and critic reactions have been mixed. While some viewers praised Sundeep Kishan’s performance, his comedic timing, the action sequences, and the music by Thaman S, others criticized the pacing and screenplay. Some reviews described the film as an “outdated borefest,” though the interval block received positive mentions.
In discussions regarding his debut, Jason Sanjay addressed viral videos highlighting his physical resemblance to his father, Thalapathy Vijay, stating such similarities are “not under my control.” Looking toward future projects, Sanjay expressed interest in directing a lighthearted romantic comedy featuring Vijay to showcase the actor’s “innocent and fun side.”
